About Muskoka

Welcome to Muskoka, Ontario

The District of Muskoka, generally referred to as Muskoka by local residents but definitely not as “The Muskokas”. It is a Regional Municiality located in Central Ontario.  It extends form Georgian Bay in the West to the Northern tip of Lake Couchiching in the South, to the Western edge of Algonquin Provoincial Park.

Muskoka is approximately 2 hours North of the GTA.  Permanent residents number approximately 60,000 but that balloons to over 135,000 in the summer.  As such there are many amenities of a much larger centre.  From medical to dinning to shopping, all exceed what would typically be available to an area with only 60,000 permanent residents.

The area is very picturesque and is dotted with small lakeside communities. It has long been a favorite place for both Europeans and SE Asian visitors during the Fall when the leaves change color.  Approximately 2,000,000 visitors travel to the region each summer.

The region has many summer Arts and Culture Festivals and Fairs and in May 2010 hosted the 36th G8 summit in the town of Huntsville. The predominant towns in the area are Gravenhurst, Bracebridge, Port Carling, Huntsville and Lake of Bays.

Population in the District has risen by over 8% in the past 10 years and is projected to increase another 6% in the next 5 years.

Muskoka is a world class vibrant destination with so much to offer.  If you need additional economic, demographic or cultural information please don’t hesitate to contact us.
