July Events in and Around Huntsville & Muskoka

Summer is in full swing with many families and visitors already here in Huntsville and the Muskoka region. July in Huntsville is full of incredible ways to keep summer exciting, including some amazing festivals and celebrations. It is no exaggeration to say there is something happening around music, sports and art every day of the month. The Wearing Parrott Team will be sure to enjoy some of the upcoming events; maybe we will see you sometime too. Listed below are some ideas to help you plan your July fun.
It wouldn’t be Canada Day without a big celebration in Huntsville. Coming up Friday, July 1st, celebrate the birth of our incredible country. There are events happening across town beginning with breakfast and ending with an amazing fireworks show. A Birthday wouldn’t be the same without cake and ice cream. Our Canada Day celebration not only has some of the area’s best food and music at the Canada Day Festival, there’s also the Muskoka Heritage Place Strawberry & Steam ice cream social and the kids can make their own birthday cake at Robinson’s Independent Grocer. The Huntsville Canada Day celebration is one not to be missed.
Coming up Friday, July 8th, there is an incredible play at the Algonquin Theater in Huntsville. Sponsored by The Rick Wearing & Sandra Parrott Team of Royal LePage as part of the Huntsville Arts Festival, Confessions of a Fairy’s Daughter, explores the memories of a child growing up with a gay father. The play is based on the best-selling memoir of award-winning author and actress, Alison Wearing, Rick’s cousin. Come see Alison bring her memories to life on the stage. This play has a special place in our hearts, and we are thrilled it will be shared with Huntsville this summer.
You can test your endurance with the Ironman Muskoka 70.3. A weekend of swimming, biking and running with the whole family and a healthy lifestyle in mind. This annual triathlon runs from Saturday July 9th- Sunday July 10th. On the day before the official Ironman Muskoka race, enjoy the Muskoka Coffee Dock swim where a cup of brew is waiting dockside; or have fun with the kids at the Ironkids race. Laughs and entertainment round out the day with the Rotary Dockfest Bathtub Parade and Race. Sunday is the big race day for our triathlon athletes. There are more sports and activities for the kids too, including the Kid Zone and Fast & Female, a day full of different sport activities for girls aged 8-18.
If you have plans to update your cottage, be sure to check out the Summer Home & Cottage Show on Saturday July 16th, being held at the Huntsville Place Mall. Local vendors will have the latest in cottage remodeling and decorating ideas, alongside local and regional resources such as Muskoka Life magazine and Habitat for Humanity Ontario. This is a great way to find inspiration toward creating the cottage of your dreams.
The July portion of the Huntsville Festival of the Arts includes a wide range of musical performances and festival events throughout the month. For a truly unique musical art experience, check out the Back Street Urban Arts Festival on Saturday July 23rd at River Mill Park in Huntsville. Across the park and in a variety of pop-up locations in downtown Huntsville, you can hear the sounds of the urban art beat. From drumming workshops to buskers (street performers), poetry slams and graffiti artists showcasing their talents, you will be surrounded by incredible urban art.
There is another art festival on July 23rd, so head over to Baysville for the popular 28th Annual Baysville Walkabout Festival. Showcasing a variety of arts and crafts by local and regional artists, you may just find the next piece to display in your Muskoka cottage. This is a classic family friendly art fest with live music, local food vendors and kids’ activities as well.
Wrap up the month with the 9th Annual Huntsville Jazz Festival taking place Thursday, July 28th- Sunday, July 30th. Main performances include a John Coltrane Tribute, singer Adi Brown and pianist Oliver Jones. The jazz festival is just one of a long list of musical entertainment you will find in Huntsville and around Muskoka in July.
