December Events In & Around Huntsville & Muskoka

December brings a quieter season to Huntsville and the Muskoka region, but there are still plenty of activities and events going on for the community. Those of us who enjoy living here year round, experience all the seasons and the natural beauty each one brings to our backyards and the surrounding landscape. We enjoy getting out in the cold of winter and celebrating the holiday season. December is a wonderful time to be here. Listed below are some upcoming events you may enjoy.

Get some holiday gift shopping done, or find something new for yourself, at the annual Made in Muskoka Christmas Show. This juried arts and crafts holiday market will be held Friday, December 9th through Sunday, December 11th at the Sutherland Hall in Huntsville. Find a unique gift for that special someone and support our local artists, some of the region’s best live here.

With just 5 performances to attend, take a step back in time to the Victorian era and the world of Charles Dickens. Presented by the Huntsville Theatre Company, get into the holiday spirit with this amazing adaptation of A Christmas Carol. The performances run December 16th - 18th and again December 22nd - 23rd.  This is a wonderful way to spend time with family and friends.

If you have young kids in your life, you won’t want to miss the joy and wonder in their eyes as they experience a magical train ride on the Portage Flyer at the Muskoka Heritage Place Centre. Enjoy hot chocolate and cookies on an Evening Train Ride to Santa. One day only, on Saturday, December 17th.

Head over to Hidden Valley Highlands Ski Area for a popular Muskoka tradition, the Torchlight Parade, on Saturday, December 24th. Watch a parade of skiers as they descend the Flying Dutchman with flaming torches in hand. Rumor has it that Santa will show off his skiing skills too. Enjoy some excitement at Hidden Valley on Saturday, December 31st, with the Annual New Year’s Eve Fireworks show, set to live music.

A fun Huntsville tradition is to head over to the Canada Summit Centre for family skate weekends. On New Year’s Eve, there is always a lot of fun and celebration in a family friendly environment. Admission is free with a donation to The Table Food Bank. With two arenas, a game of hockey or curling, or skate around the ice, fun is never far away.

December is amazing in Huntsville and the surrounding Muskoka region. Community gatherings are a great way to enliven your holiday spirit and enjoy the beauty and serenity of living here.  We are fortunate that there are always events to choose from, whether it is on a full-time or part-time basis while enjoying your vacation getaway.

We hope you can join in some of these much-loved Huntsville and Muskoka traditions. If you are in the market for a cottage, home or condo in the Huntsville area, put the care and expertise of the Rick Wearing & Sandra Parrott team to work for you. Please call us at 705-788-3535 or email at today!
