February Events In & Around Huntsville & Muskoka

Winter cold still lingers on in February around Huntsville and the Muskoka region. We have substantial snowfall, and often February is on the drier side, allowing for more outdoor winter fun, from ice skating, to cross country skiing, or snowshoeing. As winter begins to wind down, there is still plenty to do. We also have community gatherings and events to help combat winter blues. There is no chance to get cabin fever when you can get out and enjoy the fun and exciting happenings around Huntsville and Muskoka throughout the cold winter months. Listed below are some upcoming events you may enjoy.

This year marks the 18th Annual Kelly Shires Breast Cancer Snow Run. This special event includes teams of women snowmobile riders trekking through the trails around the Hidden Valley Resort in Huntsville, while raising funds to help fight the battle against breast cancer. After the race, there is a wonderful evening gala to celebrate a day full of inspiration and hard work. This year’s race goes from February 3rd  to 5th.  Not up for snowmobiling? The event is a 100% volunteer run event; the more help they can get the better.

There is still time to enjoy a true Huntsville experience. Friday, February 3rd marks the last of this season’s Fire & Ice Night at Arrowhead Provincial Park. Take a 1.3 km skating trail through the winter beauty of the park, which will be lit with hundreds of tiki torches. A truly awesome sight to see and skate trail to experience. This event is dependent on the weather and ice conditions. Be sure to check with park officials before heading out.

A long-standing winter tradition can be found in Dwight the weekend of February 10th - 11th. The 47th Dwight Winter Carnival has fun for everyone. From chili cook-offs, to archery demos, drum circles, ice skating, horse drawn sleigh rides and more, there is something for everyone at this winter carnival. Most events during the carnival are free once you purchase your $4.00 carnival pin, a great value for the entire family to enjoy.

There is no place like Lake of Bays when it comes to ice fishing, a favourite winter pastime in Muskoka. If you love this winter sport, you’ll want to join in the fun at the Lake of Bays Tournament of Legend ice fishing tournament. The contest will be Saturday, February 18th, and is open to adults and kids aged 12 & older. Hot food will be available, and warming stations will be on hand, but you do have to provide your own hut or pop-up tent. Who knows, maybe you will bring home the catch of the day and the big cash prize of $2,500.

February is an exciting time of year around Huntsville and the Muskoka region. Winter cold doesn’t slow us down or keep us inside; we embrace the winter season and live life to its fullest here. We hope you can join in some of these much-loved Huntsville and Muskoka events.
