Peace, Privacy and Nature Assured Here!

Muskoka, one of the regions often referred to as “cottage country,” is a scenic area featuring small towns, farming communities, and vacation hotspots. National Geographic rated the area as one of the best trips of 2011 and 2012. The region sees over 2.1 million tourists annually and has both permanent and summer residences.  Muskoka is home to several major lakes (Lake Muskoka, Lake Rosseau , Lake Joseph and Lake of Bays) as well as numerous smaller lakes. Around Huntsville there are the larger lakes; Fairy, Peninsula, Mary and Vernon providing about a 40 mile boating network.  Relaxing cottages, condos and year round homes line the shores of these lakes as residents and visitors take in the spectacular scenery and appreciate the placid waters. In addition to the lakes, the Muskoka region offers unmatched country living among the forests and rock outcroppings that dominate the landscape.

Louis and Gail Tusz of 785 East Waseosa Lake Road have devoted 28 years to make their address a cozy, unique place that offers plenty of privacy without the feeling of isolation. The couple met during the roofing stage of the home’s construction, so the home building process played an integral part in establishing the life that Louis, Gail and their family have built here. During the process of raising a family in this home, Louis and Gail contributed to the history and beauty of this one-of-a kind parcel of land.

This property is just across the road from Lake Wasesoa, one of the region’s smaller stunning lakes. The Tusz family have enjoyed the tranquility of the lake and the seasonal views it presents.  Having friends in the area and a getaway after the working day was done, were also positive points that made the location ideal for building a home.

The land is elevated high enough to where the home overlooks Lake Waseosa, providing beautiful seasonal views. The large 14-acre lot is gently enclosed by both the lake and the surrounding woods, supplying comfortable solitude while still being an open space and a breath of fresh air. The impression of being close to nature is evident as deer regularly pass through the property. “It definitely has a great feeling of privacy and space” says Gail.

Though the area is quiet and peaceful, it is only 15 minutes from Huntsville, the largest town in the Muskoka region, with nearly 20,000 year round residents. There are neighbouring homes in the area as well so that connecting with the community is not a daunting task.
Nearby woods as well as the picturesque lake present the opportunity for countless hours of outdoor fun. The open space near the home can be used as an outdoor play or gaming area, and it’s far enough away from the road to be protected from traffic, eliminating the worry over playing near the street. Near the house sits a chicken coop that matches the home’s colours, a fire pit, and a sugar shack for making maple syrup from the sap tapped in the hardwood bush on the property.

The paved driveway winds scenically through the forest as it leads to the open area where the home is situated. The forest encompasses walking trails that meander through the trees and afford a serene experience
for morning dog-walkers.  Around the back of the home sits a ski jump, a hill for tobogganing in the winter and an area for bike riding.

The home itself combines the classic beauty of a Victorian-style home with the practicality of a farm house. It has a built-in garage and workshop, and a grade-level family room/recreation area with a cozy wood-burning stove. On the main floor is the kitchen with “a window every way you turn” displaying the gorgeous natural views. The screened porch/deck area, another owner favourite for peaceful escapes, is right off the kitchen. This space is perfect for unwinding and listening to the birds sing.

Both the living room and dining room have hardwood floors, and the main floor also includes a room with open possibilities for den, office, or bedroom use. A pantry and four-piece bathroom, which doubles as a laundry room, share the main floor as well.

The upper level houses three additional bedrooms and another four-piece bathroom to suit an average-sized family’s need for personal domestic space. In other words, there is plenty of space to accommodate a growing family, or even a single person or couple that requires a lot of extra room.

Louis and Gail have raised four children in this lovely home, and they’ve enjoyed all the perks that the natural setting has had to offer over the years. The home has inherited character and history that 28 years of residency passes down. With their children grown up and venturing off into adulthood, the Tuszs are selling the property. It’s a beautiful place, looking for a new family to add more chapters to the home’s story.
